How much water do KOmodo dragons drink?

Komodo dragons are well-known for being highly adapted to their harsh environment. Despite the fact that they inhabit dry, volcanic islands where obtaining fresh water can be challenging, these formidable predators have unique strategies for meeting their water requirements. Although they primarily get their hydration through the consumption of prey, Komodo dragons also utilize other sources of water to fulfill their needs:

Drinking seawater: Komodo dragons have specialized salt glands located near their nostrils that allow them to excrete excess salt while drinking saltwater. This remarkable ability enables them to drink seawater without becoming dehydrated.

Eating juicy prey: A significant portion of a Komodo dragon's hydration comes from the consumption of its prey. Animals such as wild pigs and deer have succulent flesh that provides water to the dragons.

Rainwater collection: During the wet season, Komodo dragons actively seek out rainwater to quench their thirst. They dig shallow depressions or holes and position themselves to catch rainwater as it falls, enabling them to drink directly from these water sources.
