Can you drink grapefruit juice and take benicar?
Drinking grapefruit juice while taking Benicar (olmesartan) is not recommended. Grapefruit juice can significantly increase the levels of olmesartan in the blood, which can lead to an increased risk of side effects, including:
* Low blood pressure
* Dizziness
* Lightheadedness
* Headaches
* Fatigue
In some cases, taking olmesartan with grapefruit juice has even been associated with kidney damage. Therefore, it is generally advised to avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking Benicar or any other olmesartan-containing medication.
If you are a fan of grapefruit juice, I'd also suggest that you avoid eating grapefruits as well.
Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you have specific concerns or for questions about your medications.
