How does tea get into bags?

The vast majority of tea bags are filled by machines. There are two main types of tea bag filling machines: rotary and vertical.

Rotary tea bag filling machines use a rotating wheel to fill the tea bags. The wheel has a number of pockets that hold the tea leaves. As the wheel rotates, the pockets move past a filling station where they are filled with tea leaves. The filled pockets then move past a closing station where the bags are sealed shut.

Vertical tea bag filling machines use a vertical conveyor to move the tea bags through the filling process. The conveyor moves the bags past a filling station where they are filled with tea leaves. The filled bags then move past a closing station where they are sealed shut.

Once the tea bags are filled and sealed, they are packaged into boxes or other containers and sold to consumers.
