How to Make Cinnamon Bark Tea (4 Steps)

Cinnamon is a spice that dates back to 2700 B.C. Native to Sri Lanka and India, it is the inner bark of a tropical evergreen tree. Historically, cinnamon has been used both to enhance the flavor of food and drinks and as a medicine. In ancient times, it was thought to relieve ailments, such as fever, diarrhea, menstrual problems and indigestion. Today, evidence suggests that it helps to lower cholesterol, prevents excessive clotting of blood, aids in controlling blood sugar and boosts brain function, particularly with respect to memory. If you want to reap the many health benefits of cinnamon, drinking cinnamon-bark tea is an excellent way to do so.

Things You'll Need

  • Cinnamon stick (also called cinnamon bark)
  • Teapot
  • Teacup
  • Teakettle

Instructions

  1. Break cinnamon bark into pieces and put them in a teapot. Generally, one cinnamon stick can be broken into at least three pieces.

  2. Bring 1½ cups of water to a rolling boil in a teakettle. Always start with cold water and never reheat water that's already been boiled, as this will make the tea taste flat.

  3. Pour the boiling water over the cinnamon-bark pieces in the teapot and put the lid on the pot.

  4. Allow the cinnamon to steep in the water for 10 minutes. Once the spicy flavor of the cinnamon has infused the water to your satisfaction, pour the tea into a teacup and enjoy.
