How to Brew Loose-Leaf Iced Tea (6 Steps)
If you want a natural and great-tasting cup of tea, try making your tea with loose leaves. Loose-leaf teas contain whole leaves and larger leaf fragments, while tea bags contain small leaf pieces known as fannings. A tea infuser, often referred to as a tea ball or tea maker, replaces the tea bag used in commercial teas. This prevents the loose leaves from spilling out into the tea, and it allows you to steep the tea for a strong flavor.
Things You'll Need
- 1 to 2 tsp. loose-leaf black tea
- 8 oz. natural spring water
- Tea infuser
- Tea pot
- 1 tsp. sugar (optional)
Instructions
-
Bring 8 ounces of natural spring water to a boil.
-
Measure 1 to 2 teaspoons of loose-leaf tea for 8 ounces of water.
-
Place the tea into the infuser and drop it into the teapot.
-
Allow the boiled water to cool for a few minutes.
-
Pour the water into the tea pot over the infuser.
-
Allow the tea to steep for 3 to 5 minutes. Remove the tea infuser. Serve your tea hot, or pour it into a glass of ice for iced tea. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar to create sweet iced tea.
