How to Boil Lemongrass Tea (5 Steps)
Citrus-flavored and refreshing, lemon grass, when infused with boiling water, makes a tart-flavored drink. This tropical herb is commonly used to flavor Asian-styled dishes, but it can work to make a great cup of teas as well. Adding other herbs and seasonings can boost the flavor profile of your tea, but the lemon zing will predominate. Make this tea with honey to soothe a sore throat or drink it to cleanse the palate and awaken your taste buds.
Things You'll Need
- 2 lemon grass stalks
- Cutting board
- Sharp knife
- Measuring cup
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Measuring spoon
- 1/2 tsp. ground cardamom
- Small sauce pan
- Fine sieve
- Honey or sugar (optional)
- 1/4 tsp. ground star anise or ground cloves (optional)
Instructions
-
Trim off the ends of 2 lemon grass stalks with a sharp knife on a cutting board.
-
Turn the knife so it is parallel with the cutting board. Bruise the stalks by pressing the flat of the knife firmly against the stalks. Cut the stalks in half crosswise.
-
Place the stalks into a small sauce pan and cover with 3 cups of cold water. Add 1 stick of cinnamon and a 1/2 tsp. of ground cardamom.
-
Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Turn off the heat and allow it to steep for eight to 10 minutes.
-
Pour the mixture through a fine sieve to strain. Add honey or sugar to taste.
