Where does most of our drinking water come from?

The vast majority of our drinking water comes from surface water sources such as rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. These sources provide approximately 75% of the drinking water used in the United States. The remaining 25% comes from groundwater sources such as aquifers and wells.
