Where is most of liquid water and what must be done so humans can drink it?

Most of the liquid water on Earth is found in the oceans. However, humans cannot drink saltwater because it is too salty. In order for humans to drink it, the salt must be removed from the water. This can be done through a process called desalination. Desalination is a process that removes salt and other minerals from water, making it safe for human consumption. There are several different desalination technologies, but the most common is reverse osmosis. Reverse osmosis uses a semipermeable membrane to separate the salt from the water. The water molecules are able to pass through the membrane, but the salt molecules are too large and cannot pass through. This results in two streams of water: one that is pure and one that contains the salt. The salt can then be disposed of or used for other purposes.
