What drinks did people drink in the

In the Middle Ages, people drank a wide variety of beverages, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Water was the most common drink, but it was often not boiled or filtered, and could therefore be contaminated with bacteria. Beer, wine and cider were also widely consumed, and were considered to be safer to drink than water. Milk and buttermilk were also popular drinks, as were fruit juices and cordials. Mead, a honey-based alcoholic beverage, was a particular favourite of the upper classes.
