Can drinking too much water with vitamins be bad for you?

While drinking plenty of water is generally good for your health, consuming excessive water can lead to water intoxication, also known as hyponatremia. In most cases, drinking too much water is harmful to those who have conditions that result in impaired water excretion.

Your kidneys can get rid of around 20 to 30 litres of excess water per day. However, if you have any underlying kidney issues or are taking certain medications, your capacity to excrete water can be compromised, leading to potential water intoxication.

Consuming vitamins does not interfere with the water balance in the body directly, but the composition and content of the vitamin supplements can have an impact. For instance, some high-dose vitamin supplements may alter your electrolyte levels, which could exacerbate water intoxication if you're also drinking an excessive amount of water.

Additionally, water intoxication is more likely to occur when consumed rapidly, especially during exercises, athletic events, or in certain medical conditions. Slow, moderate water intake is recommended to prevent any adverse effects.
