How to Make Homemade Soda With Stevia (4 Steps)

In an effort to avoid low-calorie artificial sweeteners, soda drinkers can make their own soda at home using the natural sweetener stevia. Extracted from the leaves of the stevia plant, stevia sweetens drinks, sauces and desserts without adding carbs or calories. You can use a carbon dioxide soda infuser or use stevia to sweeten packaged sparkling water.

Things You'll Need

  • Carbon dioxide soda infusing machine (optional)
  • Additive-free sparkling water or plain water
  • Flavor extracts or fruit juice
  • Liquid stevia extract
  • Dropper bottle

Instructions

  1. Use a carbonating machine to add bubbles to tap water. As an alternative, start with packaged additive-free sparkling or soda water.

  2. Mix flavor extract into the soda one teaspoon at a time until it reaches your desired strength, or add prepared juice in 1/4-cup intervals.

  3. Add stevia extract to the flavored sparkling water, two drops at a time, sipping the soda to taste after each addition, until it reaches your desired sweetness. If the soda tastes bitter, you added too much stevia. Add additional carbonated water until it tastes sweet again.

  4. Stir gently to combine the soda with the stevia and flavor extract or juice, and cap the bottle or pitcher with an airtight seal. Store the homemade soda in the refrigerator for up to two weeks before opening or up to two days after opening.
