Alternatives to Drinking Alcohol
People choose to delete alcohol from their diets for a variety of reasons, including its high amount of calories or the altered state the beverages leave them in. Regardless of why people choose not to drink alcohol, there are plenty of options available, whether they are at home or out and about in a social setting.
Diet Drinks
-
If the calories in alcohol are an issue, stick to diet soft drinks. With no sugar, diet soda is an alternative because it is readily available at bars, restaurants and stores. It is not recommended for continual consumption, however, as it can cause problems including tooth enamel issues because of the acid content and bone loss because of the phosphoric acid in the drink. Drinking diet soda is not beneficial to your body over time, however it is a good alternative to alcohol if you need it.
Nonalcoholic drinks
-
Nonalcoholic beers are available to drink if you want to appear to be drinking while in a social setting. Just ask the bartender what they have available. If you enjoy the taste of fruity drinks such as margaritas or daiquiris, do a simple online search to find recipes on how to make the drinks. You can enjoy the taste of the beverage without the alcohol. While the calories are still there, these options are great when you have a taste for alcohol.
Coffee
-
Coffee or other caffeinated beverages are great alternatives to alcohol because while alcohol is a depressant, caffeine is a stimulant, and if you are out at a social gathering, this keeps you awake and functioning. You can keep your wits about you while still sipping from a beverage. It is a great alternative in a pinch.
Water
-
Water is a healthy alternative to alcohol because it is essential for your body to function. Your body needs eight glasses of water every day to keep hydrated. Hydration is key to keeping energized. Even mild dehydration can cause fatigue, headaches and muscle weakness. Choosing water over alcohol is always the healthier option.
Water is always a healthy choice over alcohol.
