How to Make Virgin Shirley Temples
One of the original nonalcoholic cocktails, Shirley Temples are named after the famous child actor of the 1930s who, in later life as Shirley Temple Black, gained a different kind of fame as a United States diplomat. Commonly served to children because of their sweet flavor and lack of alcohol, Shirley Temples only require a few ingredients. Make Shirley Temples to serve at birthday parties and other celebrations.
Things You'll Need
- White wine glass
- Spoon
- Ice
- 6 oz. ginger ale
- 1-2 tsp. grenadine
- 1 orange slice
- 1 maraschino cherry
Instructions
-
Place a white wine glass in the refrigerator or freezer to chill for about an hour. A chilled glass helps keep your Shirley Temple cold as you drink it.
-
Measure 6 oz. of ginger ale, a carbonated soft drink, into the wine glass. Gently stir in 1 to 2 tsp. of grenadine, a sweet, deep red and pomegranate-flavored syrup that was once exclusively made from pomegranates grown on the Caribbean island of Grenada. Since some brands of grenadine contain a small amount of alcohol, be sure you choose one that is alcohol-free.
-
Add ice cubes to the mixture if desired.
-
Garnish your Shirley Temple by placing an orange or lime slice on the rim of the glass and a red maraschino cherry in the glass. Maraschino cherries are macerated in a syrup that is typically almond-flavored. For a more festive appearance, add a drink umbrella.
