A Nonalcoholic Substitute for Pink Champagne
Nothing completes a celebration like a glass of bubbly pink Champagne, but a nonalcoholic alternative can be just as festive. Whether you're hosting a midday toast, searching for a sparkly drink to serve to designated drivers or partygoers of all ages or simply trying to cut back on alcohol, you can easily make a nonalcoholic substitute for pink Champagne. The only nonnegotiable part of the equation is a pretty Champagne glass.
Sparkling Cider
-
Pink sparkling apple cider looks just like pink Champagne and tastes like sweet, fizzy apple juice. You can purchase apple cider containing additional fruit juices that add a pink hue, or you can make your own. Fill a Champagne glass approximately 1/3 full of sparkling apple cider. Top with cranberry, pomegranate, raspberry or red grape juice until the Champagne substitute reaches the pink hue you want. Drop in a few frozen grapes for garnish.
Bubbly Pink Lemonade
-
Combine pink lemonade and white cranberry juice with club soda for a tart, nonalcoholic alternative to Champagne. Mix up a can of frozen pink lemonade concentrate using white cranberry juice in place of the water called for in the directions. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Fill a Champagne glass about 3/4 full of the lemonade mixture and top with club soda to add bubbles. Garnish with maraschino cherries.
Mock Champagne
-
For a crowd, mock Champagne made with fruit juices and ginger ale or lemon-lime soda will bubble up nicely. Mix two parts cranberry juice with one part each pineapple juice and orange juice in a large pitcher. Cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. Fill each Champagne glass half full of the juice mixture and top it off with ginger ale or lemon-lime soda. Hint: Use a strong ginger ale or nonalcoholic ginger beer for a Champagne substitute with a little bite. Lemon-lime soda will add a subtle citrus flavor to the punch. Serve immediately, while the mixture is still bubbling. If you'll be putting the pitcher out for guests to serve themselves, freeze one or more of the juices in ice cube trays and throw the cubes into the pitcher to keep the punch cold without watering it down.
Shirley Temple
-
Served in a Champagne glass, the classic Shirley Temple cocktail is a sweet nonalcoholic alternative to pink champagne. Rumored to have been invented by a Beverly Hills bartender in the 1930s for the famous child actress Shirley Temple, the blend of ginger ale and grenadine syrup is usually garnished with a maraschino cherry. Start with 6 parts ginger ale to 1 part grenadine syrup and adjust for taste and color. Squeeze in fresh lime juice for a hint of citrus.
