Is it ok to put liquor in a plastic water bottle?
It is generally not recommended to store liquor in a plastic water bottle. While it may be convenient to use a plastic bottle for transporting or storing liquor, there are several reasons why it is not ideal:
1. Leachability: Plastic can leach chemicals into the liquor, especially over time. These chemicals can affect the taste and quality of the liquor, as well as pose potential health risks.
2. Oxidation: Plastic is not an ideal material for storing alcohol because it allows oxygen to pass through, which can lead to oxidation. Oxidation can cause the liquor to lose its flavor and deteriorate over time.
3. Breakage: Plastic bottles are more prone to breakage compared to glass bottles. If a plastic bottle breaks, it can contaminate the liquor and create a safety hazard.
4. Sunlight exposure: Plastic bottles do not provide adequate protection from sunlight, which can damage the liquor and alter its flavor.
For storing liquor, it is best to use glass bottles specifically designed for spirits. These bottles are made of non-reactive materials that do not leach chemicals into the liquor and provide a better barrier against oxygen and sunlight.
