Are males or females more likely to drink alcohol?

According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, males are more likely to drink alcohol than females. In 2017, 62.3% of males aged 18 and older reported drinking alcohol in the past year, compared to 55.3% of females. Additionally, males are more likely to binge drink (defined as having five or more drinks on one occasion for men) than females. In 2017, 26.9% of males reported binge drinking in the past month, compared to 18.3% of females.
