How to make homemade Creme De Menthe (3 Steps)
Liqueurs, also known as cordials, are flavored distilled beverages that are sometimes sipped, but more often become part of a mixed drink recipe or as an element in cooking. Creme de Menthe is a minty liqueur that is a principal ingredient in cocktails such as the Grasshopper and Stinger and in desserts as well. Using a very few ingredients, make your own economic version of creme de menthe at home.
Things You'll Need
- 1 saucepan
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 2 cups vodka
- 2 tsp. peppermint extract
- Sterilized canning jar and lid, quart-sized
- Decorative bottle
Instructions
-
Combine the sugar and water in the saucepan and bring it to a boil. Simmer for five minutes, then remove it from the burner and let it cool.
-
Add the vodka and peppermint extract. Stir briefly to incorporate all the ingredients.
-
Place the mixture in the canning jar and cover it with the lid. Allow the creme de menthe to ripen for at least a month. Decant into a decorative sterilized container when the month is up.
