Where did mangoes originate?

The mango (Mangifera indica) is native to the Indian subcontinent. It has been cultivated in South and Southeast Asia for thousands of years and was introduced to other tropical and subtropical regions by Portuguese explorers in the 16th century. Today, mangoes are grown in over 100 countries around the world.
