Is strawberry a fruit or vegetable?

Botanically speaking, strawberries are considered to be aggregate accessory fruits. They are not true berries, although they are commonly referred to as such. Strawberries are fleshy fruits formed from the swelling of the receptacle (the tip of the flower stalk) after fertilization. Each "seed" on the surface of a strawberry is actually a single-seeded fruit, also known as an achene.
