Why is orange juice an acid?

Orange juice is acidic because it contains several organic acids, primarily citric acid. Citric acid is a naturally occurring carboxylic acid that gives citrus fruits their sour taste. It comprises approximately 5% to 8% of the total soluble solids in orange juice. Other organic acids present in orange juice include malic acid and ascorbic acid (vitamin C). The pH of orange juice typically ranges from 3.5 to 4.5, which falls within the acidic range on the pH scale.
