How to Make Apple Pie Shots

Start to Finish: 5 minutes
Servings: 1
Difficulty Level: Beginner

Sweet and spicy apple pie shots can be made by combining a few simple ingredients to mimic the flavors of their dessert namesake. Inspired by the Apple Cake shot recipe from The Little Black Book of Shots & Shooters, by Eric Furman and Lou Harry, the recipe for apple pie shots is easily modified so you can incorporate substitutions and variations.

Ingredients

    • 1 ounce whipped cream vodka
    • 1 ounce apple cider
    • Dash of cinnamon

Directions

  • Add a handful of ice to a cocktail shaker. Pour 1 ounce of whipped cream vodka and 1 ounce of apple cider into the shaker.

Shake for 10 to 15 seconds, to chill. Strain into a shot glass and sprinkle a dash of cinnamon on top.

Substitutions

  • You can use white rum, vanilla vodka or unflavored vodka in place of whipped cream vodka to achieve a similar-tasting result. You can also substitute apple juice for apple cider.

Instead of cinnamon, float a splash of a cinnamon flavored liqueur on top of the shot. Do this by slowly pouring a small amount of the liqueur over the back of a spoon positioned directly over the shot glass.

Variations

  • Warm up apple cider on the stovetop over medium-low heat until just steaming, and combine it with room temperature whipped cream vodka for a warm apple pie shot.

Simmer apple cider with a cinnamon stick for 10 minutes to impart a cinnamon flavor, instead of using a dash of cinnamon.

Combine 1/2 ounce of whipped cream vodka, 1/2 ounce of apple cider or apple juice, and 1/2 ounce of butterscotch liqueur in a shot glass, and it top with a dash of cinnamon to create a caramel apple pie shot.

Garnish the shot with a dollop of whipped cream for an eye-catching presentation.

A Word of Caution

  • The alcohol by volume will vary depending on the type of liquor and the brand that produced it. Vodka ranges from around 40 to up to 55 ABV.
