In 1959, the average price of a cup of coffee in the United States was just 10 cents. This was due in part to the fact that coffee was still a relatively new commodity in the country and was not yet widely available. As the popularity of coffee grew, so did the price. By the early 1970s, the average price of a cup of coffee had risen to around 20 cents.
