Why is coffee a solution?
Coffee is a suspension, not a solution. A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture in which the particles of the solute are dispersed throughout the solvent but are large enough to settle out over time. In coffee, the solute is the coffee grounds and the solvent is the water. The coffee grounds are not dissolved in the water, but are instead suspended in it. This is why coffee can be filtered to remove the coffee grounds.
