How to Add Milk to French Press Coffee

French press coffee makers use a method to prepare coffee similar to steeping tea leaves. Coarse coffee grounds sit in hot water for four minutes, then a plunger presses the grounds to the bottom of the French press with the filtered coffee ready to pour out of the pitcher. For those who prefer a creamy coffee beverage, add milk to the coffee. French press coffee has a smoother flavor than drip coffee, so you might not require the addition of milk to mellow it out.

Things You'll Need

  • Water
  • French press
  • Coarsely ground coffee beans
  • Milk

Instructions

  1. Bring the number of cups of water for your coffee to a boil over high heat.

  2. Remove the water from the heat to cool to just below a boil for two minutes.

  3. Add 1 tbsp. of coarsely ground coffee beans per cup to the bottom of your French press.

  4. Pout the water over the grounds. Do not brew your French press coffee with milk as the milk could curdle in the high heat required to brew the coffee.

  5. Screw the lid onto the top of the French press but leave the plunger up for four minutes.

  6. Gently warm your milk over low heat until heated through, if desired, to keep your coffee hot.

  7. Push the plunger down through the coffee grounds until it is completely depressed.

  8. Twist the lid to open the pouring spout and serve the coffee.

  9. Taste your French press coffee to determine if you require added milk.

  10. Add the milk, warmed if desired, or cold to the coffee based on your personal preference.
