How to Mix a Tumbleweed (4 Steps)

Some people like to have dessert after dinner, while others prefer to have an after-dinner cocktail, but a tumbleweed cocktail might be the best choice for those who can't decide. This creamy alcoholic beverage combines ice cream with coffee-flavored liqueur or your choice of other sweet liqueur flavors such as mocha, hazelnut and vanilla. You can make just enough to serve a few drinks or make a large batch that can be kept in the freezer and consumed one glass at a time.

Things You'll Need

  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Blender or mixing bowl
  • Coffee liqueur
  • Hazelnut liqueur
  • White or dark creme de cacao
  • Cream
  • Mug
  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate syrup

Instructions

  1. Scoop vanilla ice cream into a blender or a large mixing bowl if you prefer to make a large batch. The amount of ice cream is up to you, but as a general rule, you'll need one scoop of ice cream to fill one mug.

  2. Add coffee-flavored liqueur, hazelnut liqueur and white or dark creme de cacao to taste. The exact ratio of each ingredient depends entirely on taste, but as a basic rule, you'll need about 1/2 cup of coffee liqueur for every one scoop of ice cream and 1/2 ounce of creme de cacao of hazelnut liqueur.

  3. Blend the ingredients until you achieve a milkshake consistency. If the mixture is too thick, add more liqueur or cream to thin the ice cream.

  4. Serve the tumbleweeds in a chilled mug and top with whipped cream and chocolate syrup, if desired.
