How to Make a Vodka Gimlet
A vodka gimlet is a classic cocktail made with vodka and lime juice. It is a variation on the gin gimlet, which is said to have originated as a way to get sailors to drink citrus and combat scurvy while at sea. Even if you've never made a cocktail, you can make a smooth vodka gimlet in just a couple of minutes in the kitchen or behind the bar.
Shake It Up
-
To mix a vodka gimlet, you'll need a cocktail shaker with a few cubes of ice in it. Add a 2-to-1 mixture of vodka and fresh lime juice to the shaker. Use sweetened lime juice for cocktail mixes or add a teaspoon of superfine sugar for a sweeter drink. Shake the blend for a few seconds, then strain the vodka gimlet into a glass.
Serving a Vodka Gimlet
-
Vodka gimlets are commonly served over ice or on the rocks in a lowball glass with a lime slice for garnish. However, you can serve them without ice or garnish in whatever type of glass you have on hand. If you prefer a rimmed glass, dip the rim in lime juice, then in sugar or salt. For a second garnish, add a mint leaf to accent the lime slice.
