Why was coke bad for you?

Coca-Cola originally contained cocaine. In 1886, John Pemberton, a pharmacist from Atlanta, Georgia, created a drink that he claimed could relieve headaches, hangovers, and fatigue. He named the drink "Coca-Cola" after the coca leaves and kola nuts that were used to flavor it. The original recipe for Coca-Cola included 9 milligrams of cocaine per glass, which was considered a moderate dose at the time. However, in the early 1900s, concerns began to grow about the safety of cocaine. In 1906, the Pure Food and Drug Act was passed, which prohibited the sale of food and beverages that contained harmful ingredients. In response to the new law, Coca-Cola removed the cocaine from its recipe in 1903.
