When was the Bar invented?
There's a debate on the origins of the bar. One of the earliest recorded places that could be considered a bar is the "Tigris", which was a brewery near the temple of the goddess Ninkasi in ancient Sumer. This brewery existed around 2500 BCE. There are numerous other recorded mentions of tavern shops during the medieval ages, but the modern concept of a bar is rooted in the U.S. In the early 1800s, American taverns began to serve mixed drinks instead of beer. They were later called bars to differentiate from their predecessors.
