What is borosilicate glassware?
Borosilicate glassware is a type of glass made from silicon dioxide and boron oxide. It is resistant to thermal shock, making it ideal for laboratory use. It may also have a low coefficient of thermal expansion, which means that it does not expand or contract much with changes in temperature.
Borosilicate glassware has many general applications, including:
- Laboratory glassware, such as beakers, test tubes, and condensers
- Kitchenware, such as casserole dishes and measuring cups
- Lighting fixtures, such as lamp shades and light bulbs
- Art objects, such as sculptures and vases
Borosilicate glass is also the material used to produce glass wool and fiberglass insulation.
