How do you make homemade play-doh?
Homemade Play-Doh: A Fun and Easy Recipe
You'll need:
* 1 cup flour (all-purpose or bread flour)
* 1/2 cup salt (fine or coarse)
* 1 tablespoon cream of tartar (helps prevent mold)
* 1 cup water
* 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (helps with texture)
* Food coloring (optional)
Instructions:
1. Combine dry ingredients: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
2. Add wet ingredients: Add the water and vegetable oil to the saucepan.
3. Cook over medium heat: Stir constantly until the mixture thickens and forms a ball. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
4. Remove from heat: Once the dough is thick, remove it from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
5. Knead and color: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for a few minutes until smooth.
* For colored dough: Divide the dough into smaller portions and add a few drops of food coloring to each portion. Knead the color into the dough until it's evenly distributed.
6. Store: Store the play-doh in an airtight container at room temperature.
Tips:
* For a softer dough: Use a bit less flour.
* For a firmer dough: Use a bit more flour.
* For more vibrant colors: Use gel food coloring.
* To add scent: Add a few drops of essential oils (like vanilla, lavender, or cinnamon) to the dough while kneading.
Enjoy your homemade play-doh! It's a great way to have some fun and creativity with your kids.
