My cake recipe calls for frozen strawberries in syrup which is no longer sold. I can only find with sugar. What a substitute syrup?
Homemade Strawberry Syrup
---
Ingredients:
* 2 cups (500g) strawberries, hulled and sliced
* 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
* 2 tablespoons (30ml) water
* 1 tablespoon (15ml) lemon juice
Instructions:
1. In a medium saucepan, combine the strawberries, sugar, and water.
Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
2. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the strawberries have softened and released their juices.
3. Remove from heat and stir in the lemon juice.
4. Let cool completely before using.
Tips:
- For a thicker syrup, simmer for a few minutes longer.
- For a smoother syrup, strain through a fine-mesh sieve before using.
