What were Skittles candy originally called?
Skittles candy was originally called "Fruit Stripe Gum".
They were first marketed in 1974 as a fruit-flavored chewing gum with a stripe of color running through the center. In 1979, the gum was discontinued, and the company launched a new candy called "Skittles", which are the fruity candies we know today.
