If you are dedicated to the vegan lifestyle, then you know it can be sometimes hard to find the sweets you still crave made from animal-free products. Well, if you've been craving caramel, look no further. Here's a great recipe to make vegan caramels.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 cup vegan margarine
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 3 cup vegan sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 medium sized saucepan
  • Candy thermometer

Instructions

  1. Melt the margarine over a medium flame in a saucepan.

  2. Add the brown sugar, salt, corn syrup and condensed milk to the margarine. Continue to stir until the ingredients are mixed. Once all the contents are mixed, raise heat until this mixture boils.

  3. Reduce heat back to a medium flame after the mixture has boiled. Then insert a candy thermometer and continue to stir. When the temperature reaches 245 degrees, remove the saucepan from the flame.

  4. Add vanilla to the mixture and stir while cooling.

  5. Pour the semi-cooled mixture into a pan and place in the fridge to cool overnight.

  6. Place caramels on the counter the next day and allow them reach room temperature before cutting for serving or wrapping.
