How to Make Chocolate Candy from Cocoa Powder

It is easy to make chocolate fudge candy from cocoa powder. You can choose any variety of dark unsweetened cocoa powder that you prefer. Mix the ingredients according to the recipe below. Then heat it for 2 minutes in the microwave, and you're almost done. This is such an easy recipe for fudge that it makes a great "mommy and me" activity in the kitchen on a rainy afternoon.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 1/2 confectioner's sugar
  • 1/2 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract or mint extract or almond extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts, raisins or miniature marshmallows
  • 8-by-8-by-2-inch pan
  • Microwave-safe mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon or heat-safe spatula

Instructions

  1. Chop 1/4 cup of butter and set it aside. Grease the 8 x 8 x 2 inch pan. Put this aside as well. Measure the other ingredients, placing each in an individual bowl or measuring cup so that it will be easy to use later.

  2. Stir 3 1/2 cup of confectioner's sugar with 1/2 cup of cocoa powder in a microwave-safe mixing bowl. Dump in 1/4 cup of milk and 1/4 cup of butter but do not stir this.

  3. Place the mixture in the microwave oven. Heat it on high for two minutes. Take it out and stir quickly to combine all of the hot ingredients.

  4. Dump in the vanilla (or mint or almond) extract. Add the nuts, raisins or miniature marshmallows. Use the wooden spoon to fold these ingredients into the hot fudge mixture. Pour the fudge into the greased pan. Put this in the refrigerator to harden. Cut it into individual square pieces after it has solidified.
