How to Make Chocolate-Dipped Spoons (6 Steps)

Dipped in hot drinks to stir in chocolatey richness, chocolate-dipped spoons are fun to create and make fitting gifts for the coffee and hot-chocolate lover in your life. Try different kinds of chocolate and flavor extracts for your own touch. Garnish the spoons with crushed peppermint or other candies before the chocolate sets for an extra bit of sweetness and texture.

Things You'll Need

  • Parchment paper
  • Milk, dark, semisweet or white chocolate
  • Butter
  • Flavor extracts and oils, such as orange, mint or strawberry (optional)
  • Sturdy plastic spoons
  • Food-storage container or cellophane
  • Ribbon or raffia (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add 4 parts chopped chocolate or chocolate chips and 1 part butter to a microwave-safe bowl.

  2. Microwave the chocolate in 30-second increments, stirring after each period, until it's melted and lump-free.

  3. Stir in one or two drops of flavor extract or oil. Let the chocolate cool slightly.

  4. Dip the spoons in the melted chocolate from the tip of the spoon to one-third up the handle. Hold the spoon over the bowl to allow the excess chocolate to drip off.

  5. Lay the spoons on the baking sheet with the concave part of the spoon downward. If desired, sprinkle crushed candies on the chocolate portion of the spoon before it hardens.

  6. Wrap the chocolate-dipped part of each spoon in cellophane or place it in a small cellophane bag. Tie the cellophane with decorative ribbon or raffia if using as a gift. You can also store the spoons in an airtight storage container.
