How to Glue Gum Paste Together

Gum paste, made from confectioner's sugar, water and gum tragacanth, creates a pliable dough that can be rolled and formed into a variety of shapes, including flowers, animals and leaves. As the dough is exposed to air, it dries and hardens. Once hard, the gum-paste decorations will not stick to each other, but an edible adhesive will attach soft or hardened decorations to each other. With the adhesive you can hold your decorations together successfully to decorate cakes, cupcakes and other confections.

Things You'll Need

  • Meringue powder
  • Small paintbrush
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking sheet

Instructions

  1. Mix together 1 tbsp. of meringue powder and 1 tbsp. of water in a small bowl. Stir until the powder is dissolved.

  2. Use a small brush to paint the mixture over pieces of dried or soft gum paste. Adhere the pieces to each other, and press firmly for several seconds to make each piece attach.

  3. Lay the formed creations on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Allow them to dry for 24 hours before moving and handling them.
