Can you make a cake without baking soda?

Ingredients

* 2 cups all-purpose flour

* 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar

* 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

* 1 teaspoon baking powder

* 1 teaspoon salt

* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

* 1/4 cup vegetable oil

* 2 large eggs

* 1 cup water

* 1/4 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the vanilla extract, vegetable oil, eggs, and water.

4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until combined. Do not overmix.

5. Fold in the chocolate chips, if desired.

6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

7. Let the cake cool completely before serving.
