How do you make a 2 layer cake?
To make a two-layer cake, follow these steps:
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate frosting
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Prepare the cake pans:
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
3. Combine dry ingredients:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
4. Add wet ingredients:
- In a separate bowl, combine the boiling water and vegetable oil and let it cool slightly (for about 5 minutes) until it is warm to the touch but not hot.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the wet ingredients and mix well.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
5. Divide the batter:
- Divide the cake batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
6. Bake the cakes:
- Bake the cakes in the preheated oven for 25-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. Cool the cakes:
- Let the cakes cool completely in the pans before frosting.
8. Frost the cake:
- Once the cakes have cooled, place one layer of cake on a serving plate.
- Spread some chocolate frosting evenly on top of the first layer.
- Place the second layer of cake on top of the frosting.
- Spread more chocolate frosting on top and sides of the cake, smoothing it out to create a uniform finish.
9. Decorate (optional):
- You can decorate the cake with additional chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or other toppings of your choice.
10. Chill and serve:
- Refrigerate the cake for at least an hour to let the frosting set.
- Slice and serve the cake chilled or at room temperature.
