How do you make chocolate cake?

Here's a basic chocolate cake recipe:

Ingredients:

- 1¾ cups all-purpose flour

- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

- 1½ tsp baking powder

- 1½ tsp baking soda

- 1 tsp salt

- 2 cups white sugar

- ½ cup brown sugar

- ½ cup vegetable oil

- 2 eggs

- 1 egg yolk

- 2 tsp vanilla extract

- 1 cup hot water

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together the white sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the vegetable oil and beat until combined. Add the eggs and egg yolk one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.

4. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the hot water to the wet ingredients, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

6. Let the cakes cool completely in the pans before frosting and decorating.

You can frost the cakes with your favorite chocolate frosting or whipped cream and decorate with sprinkles, chocolate shavings, or fresh fruit. Enjoy your homemade chocolate cake!
