How to Make Small Cakes (6 Steps)
Cakes can be decorated and presented for just about any occasion. Individual cakes can be created for the same events. Individual cake pans can be used, as well as different molds. Small cakes are replicas of the large cakes, and are easy to present to the guest of honor.
Things You'll Need
- Cake mix
- Individual or small cake pans
- Shortening and flour
- Cooling rack
- Frosting, if desired
- Rolled fondant, if desired
Instructions
-
Prepare cake mix as recipe directs. Preheat oven to temperature specified.
-
Prepare individual or small cake pan by greasing with a thin layer of shortening and dusting with flour. Tap out excess flour.
-
Fill the cake pans about 1/2 to 2/3 full. Tap each mold once on a counter or work surface to remove any air bubbles and to level the batter.
-
Place pan or pans in the oven and bake until a cake tester inserted in the center comes clean. Baking times will vary depending on the size of the pan. If baking in a silicone mold, place the silicone mold or molds on a sheet pan rather than directly on the oven rack. This will ensure even cooking; they will also be easier to remove from the oven when done.
-
Remove from oven when finished baking, and let cool for about 5 minutes. Invert and cool completely on cooling racks.
-
Decorate the cakes with frosting or rolled fondant as desired, and serve.
