Magic Show Birthday Cake Ideas

Bake and decorate a magic show birthday cake to amaze believers of any age and complete a magic show themed birthday party. Choose a cake of the appropriate size for the number of guests attending your party and don't be surprised if it mysteriously disappears shortly after being served.

Rabbit-in-a-Hat Cake

  • Create a three-dimensional rabbit-in-a-hat cake by stacking one nine-inch round cake on top of two eight-inch round cakes. Sandwich the layers together with frosting and cover the cake with chocolate frosting tinted black with black liquid food coloring to create the top hat. The rabbit may be created by baking cake batter in two 10 oz. custard cups and then gluing the cakes together with frosting to form a sphere for the rabbit's head. Add two oblong-shaped cookies covered in white frosting for ears. Instead of baking a rabbit cake, you can also use half of a chocolate bunny or attach a large bunny face cookie to a Popsicle stick and insert the stick into the center of the cake.

Magic Spell Book Cake

  • Make a spell book cake by stacking two nine-inch by 13-inch cakes together with buttercream frosting. If you are having a small birthday party, you can use only one cake, although it will render a much thinner book. Apply rolled white fondant to three edges of the cake to represent the pages of the book. Roll out a different color of fondant to form a rectangle approximately 21 inches by 14 inches to form the book's cover. Carefully place the cake onto one side of this rectangle and wrap the fondant around the bare edge of the cake to cover the top. Write on the cake with decorating icing to personalize it.

Magician's Table Cake

  • Cover a square cake with red frosting or red fondant to recreate the look of a magician's table. Use fondant or candy clay to create a magic wand, playing cards and any other supplies a magician might need.

Rabbit-in-a-Hat Cupcakes

  • Present each guest with their own rabbit in a hat by serving cupcakes instead of cake. Bake cupcakes in black liners if you can find them, or use silver foil liners. Frost each cupcake with chocolate frosting tinted black. Pipe a mound of white frosting onto the center of each cupcake with an open decorating tip to create the rabbit's head. Add small round candies for the eyes and nose. Rabbit ears are made by cutting a large marshmallow in half diagonally and dipping each cut side into pink decorating sugar. Place two ears on top of each rabbit head. Add the finishing touch by tipping one end of a small pretzel stick into melted white chocolate and balancing it on the edge of each cupcake to represent a magic wand.
