How to Add Tops to Duncan Hines Cake
Duncan Hines specializes in making cake mixes of all different flavors to satisfy anyone's palette. Each regular-sized package has enough cake mix to make two 9-inch round cakes, which can be stacked to allow for fillings, extra frosting, or mixing and matching of cake flavors. Properly stacking the cakes is the key to success with your dessert. After learning how to stack the cakes, you can let your creativity go wild.
Things You'll Need
- 1 package Duncan Hines cake mix
- 2 9-inch round cake pans
- Filling or frosting
- Cake pedestal or plate
- Spreading knife
Instructions
-
Prepare your choice of Duncan Hines cake mix according to the package directions. Bake the cake in two round 9-inch pans, following the directions.
-
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool for a full 15 minutes in the pans.
-
Turn out the first cake onto a plate that it will not be staying on, so that the rounded side is down. Place the plate or pedestal that the cake will be staying on upside down on the cake, and invert both plates, so that the cake is sitting flat-side down on the pedestal or cake plate.
-
Frost the top of this cake as would like, or add filling to the top of the cake.
-
Turn out the second cake and set it on top of the first cake, rounded-side down, so that the flat side is the top of the cake. Frost over both cakes together with a spreading knife to create one evenly topped cake.
