Where does the spice paprika come from?
Paprika comes from the red pepper, a variety of the capsicum annuum plant. The spice is made from the dried and ground fruit of this plant.
While the exact origin of paprika is debated, it is generally believed to have originated in Mexico and Central America, where the capsicum annuum plant is native.
It was later brought to Europe by Christopher Columbus and became particularly popular in Hungary, where it is now a national spice.
