Where do regular gums sour and peppermint come from?
Regular gum is made from a base of chicle, a natural gum that is harvested from the sapodilla tree. Flavouring are then added to the gum base, such as mint or fruit.
Peppermint is a plant that is native to Europe and Asia. The leaves of the peppermint plant are used to make peppermint oil, which is used in a variety of products, including gum and toothpaste. The taste of peppermint comes from the menthol that it contains. Menthol is a cooling agent that also has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Sour gums are made with a souring agent, such as citric acid or malic acid. These acids give sour gums their tart flavour. Sour gums are often flavoured with fruit, such as lemon or lime.
