How to Make Tomato Powder (6 Steps)
Tomato powder adds extra tomato flavor to sauces and soups and can replace tomato sauce and paste in recipes. With a food dehydrator and a spice grinder, you can make your own tomato powder at home from tomatoes picked in your garden or purchased from the store.
Things You'll Need
- Food dehydrator
- Spice grinder
- Air-tight container
Instructions
-
Slice tomatoes into 1/4 inch thick slices.
-
Arrange the slices in a single layer on the tray of a food dehydrator.
-
Dry the tomatoes for 10 to 18 hours at 135 to 140 F or until brittle.
-
Cool the tomatoes to room temperature, and transfer them to a spice grinder.
-
Grind the tomatoes with several pulses of the spice grinder until a fine powder forms.
-
Store the tomato powder in an air-tight container in a cool, dry place.
