If you pick a tomato will another grow in place?
Picking a tomato will not cause another to grow in its place. Tomato plants produce a determinate number of blossoms and fruits for the season at the ends of its branches. Removing one fruit will not trigger the growth of another where it was attached to the vine. Instead, energy that the plant would’ve allocated to that fruit may result in larger adjacent tomatoes or increased overall plant growth.
