Do you need seeds to grow a banana tree?

Banana trees are usually propagated from rhizomes, which are underground stems that spread out and produce new shoots. Seeds can be used, but they are viable for only a short time and are more difficult to grow than rhizomes. Seeds are very small, nearly black in color, and irregularly shaped. They can be found embedded in the white, pulp of the fruit, but only a tiny fraction of them are actually fertile.
