How to Store Fresh Bacon
Bacon is a food staple enjoyed in many homes, but the meat can only remain fresh for a few days after the package is opened. Fortunately, storing bacon in the freezer is a viable way to keep the meat fresh for longer. Storing bacon in this manner will allow only the amount needed to be taken out of storage; the rest of the meat can remain fresh in the freezer for up to two months before the quality decreases.
Things You'll Need
- Bacon
- Aluminum foil, optional
- Wax paper
- Freezer bags
- Plastic wrap
Freezer Storage
-
Remove the bacon from its original packaging.
-
Unroll a large sheet of wax paper, and place one or two strips of bacon near the paper's edge.
-
Roll the bacon in the paper, jelly roll-style, once or twice.
-
Repeat the process until all of the bacon strips are within the roll; fold over the paper's ends.
-
Place the bacon roll into a freezer bag and label the bag with the date.
Refrigerator Storage
-
Leave bacon in original wrapping until you are prepared to cook it. Make a note of the expiration date and cook or freeze the bacon before the meat expires.
-
Reseal unused bacon in its original packaging, then cover the packaging completely with plastic wrap.
-
Store fresh bacon in the deli drawer of the refrigerator.
