How to Prepare Kiwi (5 Steps)
The small brown kiwi fruit was originally known as a Chinese gooseberry. Kiwi fruit is green or gold and has small black seeds sprinkled liberally in the flesh of the fruit. Kiwis are somewhat tart and are sometimes compared to pineapples and strawberries. Most people choose not to eat the fuzzy brown kiwi skin, although an entire kiwi is considered edible. Kiwi fruit can be a tasty and healthy treat.
Instructions
-
Wash the kiwi and dry lightly with a paper towel. Even if you will not be consuming the skin, it is still a prudent practice to wash all fresh produce before eating.
-
Place the kiwi onto a cutting board and cut it in half from end to end so that you have two oval kiwi halves.
-
Hold one kiwi half in your hand and slip the tip of a metal serving spoon just under the kiwi skin. Slide the spoon along the curve of the kiwi to separate the kiwi fruit from the skin. You should end up with a skinned kiwi half.
-
Place the skinned kiwi half onto the cutting board with the flat side down. Slice the kiwi half into 1/4-inch slices.
-
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 with the other half of the kiwi.
