How to Carve Carrot Flowers (7 Steps)

Create a flower-inspired garnish from a carrot. Float these carrot flowers on top of a soup or add them to a salad. They do not require experience with vegetable carving, and no special tools are needed. Practice making these carrot flowers and use your failed attempts in a salad or stew for the family. Once you have perfected your technique, use them to impress your dinner guests.

Things You'll Need

  • Water
  • Whole carrot
  • Vegetable peeler
  • Paring knife
  • Cutting board

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry a whole carrot.

  2. Run a vegetable peeler down the sides of the carrot to remove the peel, and trim the end.

  3. Set the carrot on a cutting board with the widest end of the carrot facing you. Hold the carrot in place with one hand on top of the carrot.

  4. Insert the knife in the carrot, directing the knife toward you. Cut at an angle, making a V shape, an inch from the end. Do not cut all the way through the carrot.

  5. Make a quarter turn. Make another cut in carrot at the same angle.

  6. Continue turning the carrot and creating angled cuts until you have made angled cuts on all sides of the carrot.

  7. Hold the base of the carrot and gently twist the top to free the carrot flower. Use as a garnish.
