How to Carve Carrot Flowers (7 Steps)
Create a flower-inspired garnish from a carrot. Float these carrot flowers on top of a soup or add them to a salad. They do not require experience with vegetable carving, and no special tools are needed. Practice making these carrot flowers and use your failed attempts in a salad or stew for the family. Once you have perfected your technique, use them to impress your dinner guests.
Things You'll Need
- Water
- Whole carrot
- Vegetable peeler
- Paring knife
- Cutting board
Instructions
-
Wash and dry a whole carrot.
-
Run a vegetable peeler down the sides of the carrot to remove the peel, and trim the end.
-
Set the carrot on a cutting board with the widest end of the carrot facing you. Hold the carrot in place with one hand on top of the carrot.
-
Insert the knife in the carrot, directing the knife toward you. Cut at an angle, making a V shape, an inch from the end. Do not cut all the way through the carrot.
-
Make a quarter turn. Make another cut in carrot at the same angle.
-
Continue turning the carrot and creating angled cuts until you have made angled cuts on all sides of the carrot.
-
Hold the base of the carrot and gently twist the top to free the carrot flower. Use as a garnish.
